My Story…

On August 16th, I'll be running the 2026 Falmouth Road Race on behalf of Empower, an organization whose mission is incredibly meaningful to me.

I lost my father when I was 16 years old. While that was certainly a defining moment in my life, I was fortunate to be surrounded by an incredible support system of family, friends, and mentors who helped me through it. Looking back, I realize how much that support mattered, and I know that not every child has that same level of support.

That's what makes Empower so special. Empower is a nonprofit with a very specific mission: to empower, support, and connect children and young adults (through age 24) who have experienced the loss of a parent. Through community events that remind children they are not alone in their grief, and a unique one on one mentoring program with positive role models, Empower helps teach an incredibly powerful message: loss is survivable.

About a year ago, I became an Empower mentor, and it has been an extremely rewarding experience. I've had the privilege of building a relationship with my mentee over the past year, and it's been amazing to see firsthand the impact that simply showing up, listening, and being a consistent presence can have.

Running the Falmouth Road Race is an opportunity for me to give back to an organization that is making a real difference in the lives of so many young people. Every donation helps Empower continue providing these life changing mentoring relationships and programs at no cost to the families they serve.

If you're able to support my fundraiser, I would truly appreciate it. Thank you for helping Empower ensure that more kids have someone in their corner when they need it most.

Empower is a nonprofit with a very specific mission — to empower, support, and connect children and young adults (up through age 24) who have experienced the loss of a parent. Empower provides events that remind children they are not alone in their grief, and a unique one-on-one mentor program with positive role models from the community who help teach, “loss is survivable.”

Cara was nine years old when her mother Kit died of breast cancer and formed Empower as a grassroots movement out of the gratitude she had for all the layers of support her family received growing up. Empower operates with a lean staff and thousands of volunteers from across the globe and all programs remain at no charge to the family.  For more information, or to become a Mentor or enroll a child, please visit www.weareempower.org
