Help Sydney raise money

Hello,

I am running another marathon and right now all I can think about is that life is too short to not be proactive, so I have decided to make a fundraiser out of it.

If you are reading this, I want you to think about something you can do for a moment. You might have some plans tonight to go for a nice bike ride, and meet some of your friends for drinks. In that night, you might want to go spend $8 on a pint of beer. Not a bad idea, because beer tastes good... or cider, or wine, or whatever the hell you like. Now, you could be scrolling on your phone, and come across this fundraiser, and instead of beer, spend that money on a donation to fund research for ALS. Or, see this fundraiser, donate, and then go celebrate with a beer, because lets be honest: if you have the money to buy an $8 beer, you probably have the money to additionally donate to this cause. 

For those of you who are uneducated on Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis: In short, it is a fatal, highly-progressive neurodegenerative disease where the motor neurons in the body begin to lose function. Your body experiences slow paralysis until the neurons that are responsible for moving your diaphragm lose function as well, and you ultimately die from respiratory failure. While there are current trials for therapies, there is no known successful treatment or cure for this disease.

Let me be frank. I know most of you who will see this fundraiser, because you are going to come from my social media, and I know that most of you on occasion spend money on beer or coffee, as I have often joined you. So maybe instead of spending money on something self-serving and fleeting, you can make an altruistic choice to donate to this fundraiser.

Most of you, hopefully, are educated enough to understand that scientific discovery is hindered by research, and research is hindered by funding, which means funding scientific research is a direct way that you can contribute to the discoveries that can save lives. 

I'm sorry to be cynical, but it helps get to the point, and it makes writing this more fun. So, grow up, be selfless, donate to a cause. We all know that money adds up, so make it add up to something that will help others who need it. Any contribution will help, truly.
