Our story…
My family and I are participating in the Heels4Wheels 5k to raise funds for the Spina Bifida Association of Arizona.
Spina Bifida is the most common permanently disabling birth condition, yet the state of Arizona does not recognize it as a developmental disability after the age of six. These children experience lack of care continuity, often have as many as 30 surgeries by the age of 15, and are usually full time wheelchair users.
This specific event raises funds to assist with costs of placing hand-pedal bikes with children as well as ongoing bike repair/maintenance. Hand-pedal bikes are great equalizers for wheelchair-bound children, bringing them the joy of being active and the freedom to explore their communities with friends.
We’ve set a fundraising goal of $2,000 (which is what my hand-pedal bike cost me several years ago). If you are looking for an impactful cause to support — this is one I can personally attest to. Any amount is appreciated. Thank you!
