My Story…

Running for Jordan

2026 has been a great year for getting back into shape, and what better way to finish it off than by running a 5K? I can't guarantee I'll be breaking any records, but my goal is simple: cross the finish line.

As an employee of the YMCA, I've had the privilege of seeing firsthand the impact events like Jordan's Run the Runway have on recipients, participants, donors, volunteers, and entire communities. Over the past two years, I've had a front-row seat to the stories, memories, and moments that make this event so special. Every conversation and every shared experience is a reminder of why this event matters.

One memory that will stay with me forever happened this past June. Janice, Jordan's mom, and I sat together on Jordan's memorial bench at Camp Queen Elizabeth. As we looked out over camp, she shared stories about Jordan, his love for CQE, and the memories he created there. It was a simple moment, just two people sitting on a bench, but it carried so much meaning. Listening to Janice speak about her son reminded me that Jordan's Run the Runway is about more than just a race. It's about honouring a life, preserving memories, and ensuring future generations can experience the same sense of belonging and joy that Jordan found at camp.

So when I lace up my shoes and step onto the runway, I'll be thinking about that conversation, that bench, and the countless lives that have been touched through this event. I may not set a personal best, but I'll be running with purpose, gratitude, and a heart full of memories.
