My Story…
Because we need to do our best to keep our communities safe, and that means every one of us taking responsibility in both big and small ways. In my work, I witness the realities of family violence regularly; the deep and lasting harm, the fear and control, the systemic gaps that leave people without the support or safety they need, and the very real barriers that make it hard to leave or even speak up. This is not just a private issue. It is a community issue shaped by power, inequality, patriarchy and silence. And I promise you it resides in places you come across often; your workplace, your kiddo's schools, your corner coffeeshop, the hospital down the street, your immediate neighborhood, the person in the car next to you, or at the hairdressers, or in line at the grocery store. And maybe, it has, or is, or will exist in your own personal circle, like it has mine.
So I’m choosing to act. I’m running to support the Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation that provides safety, advocacy, and critical resources for those impacted by violence. Ever bit of support helps! There is nothing I’m more passionate about bringing attention to than family violence.
