My Story…

Meet my daughter Etta - a hilarious, spunky 3-year old who loves nature walks, holding wands and silly pencils, and all things Disney!

Etta has cerebral palsy, which brings about some serious challenges. Etta is non-mobile, talks with us using an eyegaze device, and is fed through a G-tube. Being a special needs parent is a marathon. I know first hand that respite is crucial to avoid caregiver burnout. A few times a year, Etta gets to stay at The Darling Home for Kids. We get to recharge, spend quality time with her brother, and are better parents for it.

That's why I am taking part in the Rally for DHK this year! It is an adventure race full of puzzle and ridiculous challenges, with all funds raised going to The Darling Home for Kids. DHK provides respite, residential, and palliative care for children with complex medical needs and their families (like us!).

I'm aiming to raise $1000 by Oct 3 (🎂 Etta's fourth birthday!! 🎈). Consider your donation a birthday gift to Etta.

Your support could look like:
$30 → monthly subscription for the kids to enjoy their favourite shows and movies
$100 → art and music supplies for therapy programs
$1,000 → operational costs associated with a weekend of respite care

PS: Your employer may offer a Giving Match Program! Considering checking that out to make your donation go further!

Description

I'm taking part in the Rally for DHK - a wild, road trip-style adventure race full of puzzles, clues, and hilarious challenges - all in support of The Darling Home for Kids. It’s an amazing cause that provides care and comfort to kids with complex medical needs, and I’d love your help in supporting them. Please consider donating to my page as we rally for fun and for a great reason. Every dollar makes a difference! 💙

Meet Everleigh: Everleigh breathes through a trach, sometimes with a ventilator, and has a G-tube for her feeds and medications. She loves being around her friends at DHK. She enjoys listening to nursery rhymes, and watching Peppa Pig. Creating art with the help of our caring staff is one of her most favourite activities. At The Darling Home for Kids, Everleigh is supported, cherished, and enjoys each day filled with activities that help her thrive. Because here, childhood is celebrated and lived fully, no matter the complexity. Joy Lives Here.

Your support is the reason families can access essential respite days and nights, and the reason these children can receive the medical care they deserve, while embracing the joy of childhood – something every child should have the chance to experience.  Every smile and every moment of care is possible because of supporters like you. Proceeds from the Rally for DHK, will help to support our core programs and services and can provide:

  • $30 – a monthly subscription for our kids to enjoy their favourite shows
  • $50 – a Family Support session, like Siblings or Parents Connect
  • $100 – Music, arts, and craft supplies – for our therapy programs
  • $250 – an outing for our residents
  • $500 – technology to help our kids attend virtual medical appointments and avoid travel to the hospital
  • $1,000 – operational costs associated with a weekend of respite care
  • $2,500 – an inclusive event for all of our families at DHK
