My Story…
My name is Amy St John. In 2022, just before I turned 18, I was diagnosed with a rare form of Hodgkin lymphoma (Nodular lymphocyte-predominant). I went through four rounds of chemotherapy at McMaster Children’s Hospital, and today, at 21 years old, I’ve been in remission for over three years.
Running became part of my healing journey. It has helped me rebuild trust in my body and move forward after one of the hardest chapters of my life.
On October 25th, I’ll be running the Niagara Marathon for the second time, but now alongside my mom and friends, and together we’re fundraising for Childhood Cancer Canada, whose charity is dedicated entirely to helping children with cancer and their families.
Last year I raised $2,000. This year my goal is $5,000, because every dollar helps fund pediatric cancer research, clinical trials, and family support programs that give kids the opportunity I was given: the chance to fight, to heal, and to grow up and chase their dreams.
I can’t change what I went through, but I can turn my experience into hope for others. Running this marathon is part of how I can give back. I got the chance to keep dreaming after cancer, and I want to help others like me get the opportunity to do the same.
