My Story…
That's me circa 1974. I have had over a half a century of living since that photo was taken. The 2026 version is taller and more tan. There are more pieces of information jammed in the brain. But that KID is very much alive and leading the way. Same stares, same patience, same wonder, same desire to play, same belief that he can tilt any outcome. His brain was a lot sharper - he slept a lot more than I do, he was cuter, and had more hair. Both version fear failure - not the outcome - but how it might lower people's opinion of me. But both believe that will and effort can accomplish anything, especially if you know why you it matters to you. A belief perhaps born from an unparalleled stubbornness, at least just a little bit.
The bigger bit, was being surrounded by people who created an environment that believed in me, helped me see the simplicity of a seemingly complicated world, and demonstrated how to tackled life with an even-keeled matter of factness.
I don't think the world is any more complex today, but there is definitely more noise that each kid needs to filter out and through to become the version of themselves they hope to become. That's where JCYC comes in. We help kids see past the noise, so they can focus on themselves - see their strengths, figure out their dreams, and develop a tenacity powered by their "why's" to make what is in their minds be their everyday existence.
PLEASE help the kid in the photo help JCYC make the dreams of more kids become their everyday by donating to my page.
