My Story…
Hello Fam & Friends! 💛
JCYC and JCYC College Access are extremely important to me. I first learned about JCYC as a student at John O’Connell High School when an Advisor came into my classroom and gave a presentation that forever changed my life. For the first time, I was told that college was possible for me.
Growing up in a low-income household where neither my parents nor siblings graduated from high school, college never felt like an option. But through the intentional support and encouragement of my Advisor, I began to understand how life-changing it is to have people who uplift students and communities and help turn dreams into reality.
That experience inspired me to do the same: help youth like me — and all youth — succeed.
Throughout high school and college, I stayed connected with JCYC by applying for scholarships, attending workshops, and consistently reaching out about opportunities to get involved. Because of that commitment and consistency, I was fortunate to be hired as a Part-Time Advisor with SFCAC while I was still in college, and later became a Full-Time Advisor with ETS after graduating.
Since then, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to serve as a Senior High School Educational Advisor, Associate Director, and now Program Director — all because I truly believe this work changes lives… because it changed mine.
JCYC is a strong, intentional, and deeply committed organization that creates opportunities for so many young people and their families. I am able to serve my community because of JCYC, and I am incredibly grateful for that. I will continue to carry JCYC’s mission and values into my professional and personal life and as a parent because I truly believe in the work we do.
If you’re able to, please consider donating to support scholarships for low-income, first-generation college students.
Proceeds from the SF Aloha Run will support JCYC Scholarship Programs, including:
• Believe Scholarship
• Pathways Scholarship
• Excellence Scholarship
• Thomatra Scott Scholarship
These scholarships help students as they prepare for and pursue higher education.
Thank you, Fam & Friends! Much love 💛
