My Story…
For Freddy. For Hope. For What's Still Possible.
In July 2009, I lost my brother Freddy.
He was funny, brilliant, creative, stubborn, generous, and unforgettable. He loved music, art, family, the Dodgers, and making people laugh. If you knew him, chances are you heard his famous catchphrase: “That’s your pedo!”
Before he passed away, Freddy was working hard to build a new future for himself. He had returned to school, was earning straight A's, and was preparing for a new career. He reminded me that people are capable of growth, transformation, and becoming more than their circumstances.
That is one reason Homeboy Industries means so much to me.
Several years ago, I had the privilege of working with justice-involved men and women as they rebuilt their lives. Although it was only one chapter of my life, it left a lasting impact on me. I witnessed firsthand what can happen when people are given support, education, dignity, opportunity, and someone who believes in them.
I run because I believe people deserve second chances.
I run because I believe education, healing, and community can change lives.
I run because every person deserves the opportunity to write a new chapter.
Most of all, I run for Freddy.
Thank you for supporting Team That's Your Pedo and the life-changing work of Homeboy Industries.
