Grace was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) – a rare and serious congenital heart defect in which the left side of the heart does not develop properly. In a healthy heart, the left side pumps oxygen-rich blood to the entire body. For babies with HLHS, that critical function cannot happen without surgical intervention.

Because of this, Grace’s life-saving care began immediately.

Within her first days of life, Grace underwent her first open-heart surgery, one of several procedures children with HLHS must have in order to survive and grow. She had her second open-heart surgery at five months old. Already, she has shown us what incredible strength looks like. At such a tiny size, Grace has faced challenges most adults could never imagine – yet she continues to fight with courage that inspires us every single day.

Her journey is far from over. In a few years, Grace will undergo a third open-heart surgery as part of the three-stage treatment that helps children with HLHS live fuller lives. Eventually, she will also need a heart transplant. Along the way, families like ours rely on medical innovation, compassionate care teams, and a community that understands this journey.

That’s why we are proud to participate in the HEARTest Yard + Showmars 5K.

The HEARTest Yard Foundation, founded by the Greg Olsen family, provides critical support for families navigating congenital heart disease. From in-home nursing care to family resources and a tribe of encouraging families, nurses, and doctors, they walk alongside heart families during some of the most challenging moments we face.

Our team, Amazing Grace, is walking in honor of Grace, the countless children living with congenital heart disease, and the brave heart warriors who now watch over us from heaven. These kids are often called heart warriors—and for good reason. Their strength, resilience, and joy in the face of adversity are nothing short of amazing.
