My Story…
I was diagnosed with breast cancer on November 17th 2025 and metastatic breast cancer on December 3rd 2025. In an instant, my life was completely changed forever. Every day since has been a lesson in courage, resilience and learning to live with uncertainty. I am married to a wonderful husband, and together we’re raising our five children, ranging in age from 14 to 20. They are my greatest motivation and the reason I continue to fight with everything I have. They remind me every day that there is still so much life to live, so many memories to make and so much love to give. I’ve learned to celebrate ordinary moments, lean on the people I love, and find strength I never knew I had. One of the ways I’m turning my diagnosis into purpose is by walking to raise money for MBC research. MBC remains significantly underfunded, even though it is the form of breast cancer responsible for nearly all breast cancer deaths. I’m walking to help bring awareness, support those living with this disease and raise funds for the research that gives us better treatments and hopefully one day a cure.

ABOUT METASTATIC BREAST CANCER
Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is stage 4 breast cancer, for which there is no cure. Globally, more than 670,000 people die each year from MBC, with more than 43,000 dying each year in the U.S. alone (117 per day). Metastatic breast cancer spreads mostly to the bones, liver, lungs, and brain, causing MBC patients to be in treatment for the rest of their lives—with only 31 percent of MBC patients in the U.S. living longer than five years. Approximately 30 percent of early-stage breast cancers recur as stage 4 MBC. While 98 percent of all breast-cancer-related deaths are from MBC, less than 13 percent of overall breast-cancer funding is currently allocated to researching metastatic breast cancer.
METAvivor has been able to award over $41 million to fund 230 MBC research grants. We are extremely passionate about raising money for this cause and truly thank you for helping save lives by participating in or fundraising for this event.
WHAT IS #LightUpMBC?
#LightUpMBC is the world's largest visual representation of awareness for Metastatic Breast Cancer and largest fundraising campaign for METAvivor. The global campaign partners with over 300 landmarks across every U.S. State and many countries around the world to illuminate in the MBC awareness colors of pink, teal and green on October 13th, MBC Awareness Day. That evening, #LightUpMBC Live is a dynamic virtual event that serves as the centerpiece of the #LightUpMBC campaign, bringing together the metastatic breast cancer (MBC) community and its supporters for an evening of storytelling, inspiration, and impact. This live-streamed program features powerful stories from MBC patients and their families, musical performances, and appearances by special guests who amplify the mission of raising awareness and funds for MBC research. For more info on how to watch, get involved, or view the list of participating landmarks, please visit www.LightUpMBC.org
