My Story…
My journey with endometriosis began in my teens with debilitating pain beginning in my early twenties. From that time, it took me seven doctors across three provinces over the course of ten years to be diagnosed (with so many uneducated, unhelpful and sometimes harmful comments, diagnosis and medications along the way). Coming out of my third surgery, I am lucky to be in a position where I have been able to educate myself and development non-medicinal pain management strategies. More than that, i am lucky to have the most amazing support system. On May 30th, I am walking to raise awareness so that we can bring the average time for diagnosis down from the shocking 7 to 10 years. More importantly, I want to help young women feel heard, not ignored. Support and not dismissed. The mental health affects to this underfunded and under-researched disease sometimes exceed that of the physical effects.
