My Story…

I’m 40 years old, a single mom, and a breast cancer survivor. I’m a survivor because screening works.

When I turned 40, I did what I was supposed to do — I scheduled my first mammogram. The tech told me most first-timers get called back, so I wasn’t too worried when that call came. The second mammogram still showed an area of concern, but an ultrasound found nothing. When the radiologist recommended a biopsy, I was frustrated. It felt like a waste of time for nothing.

Then, on June 5, the radiologist called with my results. It’s cancer. The next fifteen minutes are still a blur.

By July 23, I’d had surgery. In August, I started radiation and began my anti-hormone journey — all while raising my kids on my own.

Today, I can say I’m cancer free. And it’s all because of a routine screening mammogram.

I’m sharing my story because early detection saved my life, and I know not everyone has the access, resources, or support to get there. That’s why I’m raising funds — to help make sure more women get the screenings they need, before it’s too late.
