My Story…

We are walking and running for a second year in honor of Cameron "Nemo" Niemi, who we unexpectedly lost on July 16th, 2025 at the age of 23. Cameron was kind-hearted, funny, and had a genius-level amount of knowledge about music. His memory inspires us to come together, support one another, and raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention.
Our team name, "Cam’s Clownfish", was inspired by his friends' loving nickname for him, "Nemo." Clownfish represent resilience, adaptability, and partnership. Cam was a shining light in many lives, and all who knew him feel his loss deeply.
By participating in the Don't Lose Hope 5K for Suicide Awareness, we are joining others working to:
- Honor those we’ve lost to suicide.
- Support loved ones who are struggling.
- Raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding mental health.
- Fund critical programs for suicide prevention, education, and support for survivors.
We are raising funds for Child & Family Services, the agency that provides mobile crisis intervention services and other community support to the Greater New Bedford Area. Last year, we raised over $2,000 for C&FS!
We invite you to walk, run, donate, or simply share our page to spread the word. Thank you for supporting our team and helping us carry Cameron’s memory forward with hope, love, and action.
In honor of Cameron - just keep swimming.
