My Story…
Aspen underwent her six-month pediatric check-up, during which her pediatrician detected a hard lump on the side of her abdomen. An ultrasound was scheduled for later that week to make sure it was nothing serious. However, the very next day, we observed blood in Aspen's diaper and immediately took her to the children's hospital. Following a series of tests, we were informed that Aspen had a mass on her left kidney, and we were admitted to the cancer and blood disorders floor. The diagnosis of stage 3 Wilms tumor was devastating, necessitating the removal of her left kidney and the tumor. We were shocked, as baby Aspen is an exceptionally happy baby, and we had no indication that she was experiencing pain. A few days later, Aspen underwent surgery, which involved the removal of her left kidney, the 14 cenimeter tumor, a portion of her diaphragm and spleen, and multiple lymph nodes. The surgery resulted in an 11-inch scar and the placement of a port in her left chest. We were awaiting results from the tumor analysis and were informed that Aspen will undergo more aggressive chemotherapy to prevent recurrence. We also received results indicating that 1 out of 4 lymph nodes were cancerous, which is devastating news. Aspen completed 7 sessions of radiation and 13 cycles of chemotherapy . Aspen, as our first and only child, is at the center of our universe Our devotion to our babygirl Aspen knows no bounds Aspen is officially cancer free 💛
