Raise money for Western PA CARES for Kids
A Child Advocacy Center provides a coordinated, child-focused response when there are concerns of abuse or when a child has witnessed violence. Instead of navigating a confusing system or being interviewed multiple times in different settings, children come to one safe, welcoming place designed with their comfort in mind.
At the center, each child is interviewed one time by a specially trained forensic interviewer who uses nationally recognized, evidence-based practices. This interview is conducted in a way that is developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed. Members of the multidisciplinary team, including law enforcement, child protective services, prosecutors, medical and mental health professionals, and victim advocates, observe the interview together. This approach ensures that everyone hears the same information at the same time and eliminates the need for the child to repeat their experience.
Following the interview, the team works collaboratively to make informed decisions about the investigation, treatment, and next steps. Children and their families are also connected to advocacy, medical care, and mental health services to support healing and recovery.
Child Advocacy Centers reduce trauma, strengthen investigations, and improve outcomes for children and families. Just as important, they create a space where children feel safe, heard, and supported during an incredibly difficult time.
Your support helps make this response possible. It ensures that children in our community have access to compassionate care, a coordinated team, and a place where their voices matter.
