My Story…
Kesik's Autism Journey
My daughter, Kesik, is 11 years old and was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at the age of 10. Along with autism, she also lives with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), ADHD, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
As a single mother, the journey to diagnosis was not always easy. There were many years of searching for answers, attending appointments, advocating for support, and trying to understand the challenges Kesik faced every day. At times, it felt overwhelming, but my love for her gave me the strength to keep going.
Receiving her diagnosis brought both relief and understanding. It helped explain many of the struggles she experienced, including anxiety, difficulties with demands and expectations, and challenges with attention and focus. More importantly, it helped us better understand who she is and how to support her.
Despite the challenges, Kesik is incredibly strong, resilient, and unique. She continues to teach me the importance of patience, acceptance, and celebrating progress in all its forms. Every milestone she reaches is a testament to her determination and courage.
While autism, PDA, ADHD, and anxiety are part of her story, they do not define her. Kesik is so much more than a diagnosis. She is loved, valued, and celebrated for exactly who she is.
Being Kesik's mother has been the greatest privilege of my life, and I am proud to walk beside her on this journey every step of the way. ❤️
