Why We Flock

This year, our family and friends are coming together as Flock Cancer to raise awareness and support research for pancreatic cancer.

Pancreatic cancer is personal for our family. We carry a BRCA2 mutation, which has made genetic testing, understanding inherited cancer risk, and appropriate screening and surveillance a very real part of our lives. Knowing our genetic risk has allowed members of our family to take meaningful steps when prevention is possible.

But pancreatic cancer is different.
Unlike breast and ovarian cancer, where BRCA2 carriers have established options for risk reduction and prevention, there is currently no way to prevent pancreatic cancer. For those at increased genetic risk, surveillance can help find changes earlier—but there is still so much we don’t know, and there is no guarantee that pancreatic cancer will be caught early enough to make a difference.

We want to help support research that can lead to better early detection, better surveillance, better treatments, and ultimately a way to prevent pancreatic cancer altogether.

Our family and friends are running and fundraising not because one person has to run, but because all of us have a stake in changing what pancreatic cancer looks like for the generations that come after us.
