Owen is as born with a rare birth defect, Posteromedial Tibial Bowing. In March, we packed up and temporarily moved to Baltimore from Cleveland to complete the straightening and lengthening process for Owen’s leg. On March 11th, Owen underwent a 4 hour surgery with Dr. McClure and his external fixator (“Fixey”) was placed. We spent the following 3.5 months in Baltimore until we went home June 19th. Owen is currently working in tandem with the Rubin Institute and his local orthopedic surgeon to complete his care. On September 8th, Owen will have his 3rd and final surgery this year and Fixey is coming off!  If everything goes to plan, his cast will be removed in the days leading up to the race, which also happens to be his 3rd birthday!! We have so much to celebrate this year, and we’re so excited to spend his birthday with the doctors and medical team that have made the last 6 months possible!
