The Gettysburg Independent Blues is headquartered out of the Historic Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Hall In Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

History:
The Gettysburg Independent Blues is a 501c3 organization and is part of the 2nd Military District, Sons of Veterans Reserve, the ceremonial and uniformed component of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War - a Congressionally chartered organization and successor to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). The Blues serve as Gettysburg's historic militia and was first organization in the early 1800s. The Blues volunteered for federal service during the Civil War and formed Company E of the 2nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment - a 90 day unit. Upon expiration of their original enlistment, the Blues would form Company F of the 87th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment. After the war, the veterans would form the Grand Army of the Republic Hall in Gettysburg. Their sons and grandson would continue the legacy of the Blues as part of the Grand Army of the Republic's Corps of Cadets (now known as the Sons of Veterans Reserve). The Blues continued to serve as Gettysburg's militia and would later see federal service during the Spanish American War, and WWI. Today, the Blues serve as color guard and living history organization and has the honor of leading the Memorial Day and Remembrance Day parade in Gettysburg and participating in many historic, and civic events in the community. Our core values are Fraternity, Charity, and Loyalty, as these are the traits were exemplified by our patriotic ancestors who, by the grace of God, preserved the Union.
