About 412 Food Rescue
412 Food Rescue’s mission is to prevent perfectly good food from entering the waste stream by redirecting it to households in poverty and nonprofit organizations serving those who are experiencing food insecurity.
Founded in 2015 in direct response to the disconnect between the fact that in the US, nearly 40% of all food produced is wasted while 1 in 8 people experience food insecurity. Food waste is also one of the leading causes of greenhouse gas emissions and is the single largest component in our landfills.

At 412 Food Rescue, we believe good food belongs to people, not landfills.
Every day, our Fleet That Feeds Pittsburgh, volunteers, food donors, nonprofit partners, staff, and supporters works together to keep perfectly good food moving to people who need it.
Our incredible network of 22,000+ volunteer Food Rescue Hero drivers has helped redirect more than 35 million pounds of food from the waste stream across Western Pennsylvania the equivalent of approximately 27 million meals while preventing more than 65 million pounds of CO₂ emissions.
Through the 412 Food Rescue app, volunteers can easily claim food rescues and transport surplus food from local retailers and businesses directly to nonprofit partners serving our neighbors.
This year, our Run for a Reason team is part of that Fleet.
Whether you're running the 5K, half marathon, marathon, relay, or another race-weekend event, every mile you run and every dollar you raise helps keep good food moving.
