My Story…
Hi, my name is Katerina! I am excited to be running the Pittsburgh Marathon while supporting the Alzheimer’s Association. This journey is about more than 26.2 miles; it is about giving back to a cause that holds a special place in my heart.
More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is expected to grow to nearly 13 million by 2050. Behind every statistic is a person, family and lifetime of memories worth fighting for.
I have had the privilege of working as a nurse aide caring for patients living with Alzheimer’s for the past 3+ years. I have witnessed the quiet moments: a smile, a familiar song, a hand held, and learned that sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can mean the most. The patients I have cared for have left a lasting impact on my heart, and their stories are a part of the reason I am choosing to run.
All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer’s Association and its efforts to enhance care and support programs and advance research toward treatment, prevention, and ultimately a cure. Your support means more than you know 💜
