Hi, my name is Katie! I am so excited to share that I will be running the Pittsburgh Marathon while raising awareness and funds to support the Alzheimer’s Association. This journey is about so much more than crossing a finish line; it is about honoring the people who have touched my heart and giving back to a cause that means so much to me.

For the past three years, I have had the privilege of working as a nurse aide caring for patients living with Alzheimer’s. I have witnessed the quiet moments: a smile, a familiar song, a hand held, and learned that sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can mean the most. The patients I have cared for have left a lasting impact on my heart, and their stories are a part of the reason I am choosing to run.

There are currently more than 6 million Americans who have Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is expected to grow to nearly 13 million by 2050. Behind every one of those numbers is a person, a family, and a story. These are not just statistics; they represent lives forever changed by this disease, making awareness, support, and research more important than ever.

Running my first marathon is deeply connected to my work with these patients. With every mile, I will carry their stories with me and run for the individuals and families facing Alzheimer’s. Every mile represents strength and hope of a better future.
