The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Special Olympics North Carolina is one of the largest Special Olympics programs in the world with nearly 53,000 registered athletes and Unified partners (people without intellectual disabilities), who train and compete in year-round programs in 28 different sports.
Ways your giving makes an impact:
- $25 Supports competition fees for an athlete (no athlete is ever charged a fee to participate)
- $50 Provides a sport equipment item for an athlete
- $100 Provides a uniform for an athlete
- $250 Sponsors an athlete’s participation in SONC for a year
- $500 Sponsors two athletes’ participation in SONC for a year
