Explore the ancient shores of Lake Superior!
This rugged landscape will serve as the terrain of this amazing event. The bike and run courses traverse the mesas once covered in glaciers over a kilometer thick then were shores of massive inland lake home to a population of indigenous peoples. Today the trails you will traverse are carved through Boreal Forest with the sounds of only birds and your hard breathing.
If you are looking to expand your triathlon journey, this year’s event will have 28 XTERRA World Championship spots.
Come for the race but experience a gem in the north that is Thunder Bay resting on the greatest of the Great Lakes! Known as one of Canada's greatest 'outdoor cities', Thunder Bay is a culturally diverse city filled with exciting shopping, sightseeing and entertainment. The city takes its name from the bay at the head of Lake Superior and is considered the sunniest city in eastern Canada!
Purpose:
To provide a race entry deferral to anyone who is pregnant, becomes pregnant or adopts a child prior to the race
Who is eligible for the policy?
Registrants that are pregnant
Registrants with a partner that is pregnant
Registrants that are adopting or birthing via surrogacy
What does a pregnancy or postpartum deferral provide:
A participant who obtains a pregnancy or postpartum deferral will have their original registration removed and will be provided a promo code that can be applied towards the following year's event.
If the value of the deferred race entry is greater than the new selected race entry fee, no balance refunds will be applied.
If a participant becomes pregnant again during a pregnancy or postpartum deferral period, they may request a second consecutive pregnancy or postpartum deferral.
The partner of the individual who is pregnant, with a due date less than 3 months before, and up to 3 months after the race date, is eligible to access the race entry deferral.
The same deferral policy applies also to parents who are adopting or birthing via surrogacy.

Purpose:

In 2025, XTERRA Sleeping Giant is proud to offer an open/non-binary division for all racers competing in individual events.
In accordance with XTERRA's policies, within events that offer World Championship Qualification slots, only those in the Male and Female categories are eligible for qualification. Athletes in the Open category will not be eligible for qualification.
