About Us
The Cemetery, one of only 136 National Cemeteries in the entire country, opened in 1867. Since 1984, the non-profit Regional National Cemetery Improvement Corporation has raised money to purchase and clear land to expand Fayetteville National Cemetery. The purchases, since turned over to federal government, have more than tripled the size of the Cemetery. But with the passing of the WWII generation, Fayetteville National Cemetery gets closer to full every day.
Course
The 5K course begins across the street from the entrance to the Fayetteville National Cemetery, 700 S. Government Blvd., and runs to Wilson Park, returning to the Cemetery by the trail system. Water will be provided along the course and road crossings are guarded.
The route map may be viewed in more detail at http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4088793 However, there is a tunnel for the trail system under Martin Luther King Blvd that is under construction. If this tunnel is completed in time, we will try to use it to improve safety. This will move the position of the starting gate a little bit to keep the course at 5K.
