The Community Kolor Run/Walk for United Way is a family friendly event focused on raising money for the United Way!
This is about about having the time of your life, The Community Kolor Run for United Way is a five-kilometer or 2 mile, un-timed race in which hundreds of participants, are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow:

- Finish plastered in color!
The fun continues after Community Kolor Runners and Walkers complete the race with an unforgettable Finish Party. PACKET PICK-UP
To speed up registration process, participants can choose to check in and pick up their race bag on Friday, May 1 from 9am-5pm at Riverside Athletic Club. This may help you avoid waiting in line.
Please Note: Participants will receive their Community Kolor Run t-shirt (if ordered before April 12), race number bib, 1 ounce of color and safety pins. The race number is what will identify you as a paid participant in the Community Kolor Run. It is critical that you wear your race bib on the day of the race or you will not have paint thrown on you.
WEATHER POLICY
While this is a rain or shine event and we will do everything we can to hold the Community Kolor Run event, dangerous weather conditions may cause us to delay or cancel the event. Runner safety is the highest priority. Most likely a decision like this will not be made until close to the race start time. In the unlikely event of a cancellation, refunds will not be issued.
RACE DAY
Arrive early. We have parking surrounding our building as well as up the road. Allow plenty of time for parking; walking to the check-in area, check-in and getting prepped for start time. Make sure you have your race bib. This is your ticket into the run. You must have it in order to be on the course and have the paint thrown on you and we will not have extras.
Check-in time will begin at 8:00am. We will close the check-in tables at 9:40am so participants can begin lining up. The announcer will begin calling runners to the start line at 9:50am after the Star Spangled Banner has been sung. We will start the run promptly at 10am and will stagger the start times as follows:
Line up begins at 9:50am
10:00am: 5k runners with bib #’s 1-50
10:03am: 5k runners with bib #’s 51-100
10:06am: 5k runners with bib #’s 101-150
10:09am: 5k runners with bib #’s 151-200
10:12am: 5k runners with bib #’s 201-250
10:15am: 5k runners with bib #’s 251-300
and above (if you are running with someone with a bib number in the other group, feel free to still run with them)
10:17am: 2 mile walkers
Staggering the start times will help prevent pile-ups through the paint zones.

Garbage or plastic bags
Change of clothes
Change of shoes
Towels
Sunscreen
Bandana
Sunglasses
Camera/cell phone (wrapped in cellophane)

You can keep some of these items in your car until after the run, but you will want to have them before heading home.
KOLOR STATIONS
At about each half-mile of the event, there will be a different colored paint station. Volunteers will be there ready to throw color on you. Only those with race number bibs will get color thrown on them.
The powdered paint being thrown is made primarily of corn starch and is non-toxic and environmentally friendly. However, as with any substance you will want to keep it out of your eyes and mouth. Our throwers will aim low as you pass by, but corn starch is a fine powder so they cannot fully control where it lands. We suggest wearing sunglasses or goggles, and if you are worried about breathing in the dust, you can wear a bandana or dust mask.
Please do not stop in front of the paint stations. This will create a bottle neck and cause problems for the runners behind you. To make sure there is enough paint for everyone, the throwers will only throw so much paint on each person anyway.
The throwers will be on the one side of the road or sidewalk, if you wish to get a lot of paint on you, pass by them closely. If you wish to get less paint on you, pass by them a little further away.

REFRESHMENTS
Those visibly wearing their bibs will be able to help themselves to bottled water and a snack located where you checked in. Please, just one per person.
PHOTOS
There will be a complimentary photo station where a photographer will snap a souvenir photo of you. Photos will be posted on Riverside Athletic Club’s Facebook for you to download.
CLEANING STATION
We will have a cleaning station set up for you to wipe off excess paint off your skin before you ride home. We will have limited supplies, just enough to help wipe some off your face and hands. In fact, you will be limited to one baby wipe each, so make sure to bring your own if you desire more. Baby wipes seem to work well in getting the paint off the skin, so we recommend you bring some extra for your car ride home. Please note that Riverside Athletic Club will only have a limited number of bathroom facilities available after the race. Please plan accordingly.
CLEAN UP
A solid shower at home will get rid of most of the color powder. Any color remaining will be gone after a few days.
POST RACE COVERAGE
We have a facebook page: Riverside Athletic Club. So like us there for any other updates, official photos of the event and to share your fun photos from the event.
RULES AND SAFETY
Beyond what we already covered in this packet, we have a few other rules to make sure everyone enjoys their Community Color Run experience and respectful to their fellow racers and to our town.
- No alcohol is allowed at the Community Kolor Run
- If you are running or walking with a stroller, line up at the back of the pack
- If you are running or walking with small children, please watch them carefully and direct them along the course. Also, line up just ahead of those with strollers
- Please follow directions provided by race officials and volunteers during the run
- And, most of all, be courteous to and aware of the other participants
- No littering. Except for the water station where you can throw your cup on the ground, please do not litter. There will be garbage cans and recycling bins for your water bottles, race bibs and banana peels. We are proud of our City and want to make sure it always shines.
- No throwing paint on volunteers, observers, Police Officers, Fire Department Personnel along the route without their permission. Failure to observe this rule could result in immediate dismissal from the run. Again, DO NOT THROW PAINT ON POLICE OR FIRE PERSONNEL.

OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
This is not a competitive race. The Community Kolor Run is all about a fun-filled day to show support to the Lincoln County United Way. That’s why we offer an opportunity to walk or run. We will not be timing the run; however, you are welcome to time yourself. Just don’t expect this to be one of your faster runs. Runners can get held up through paint stations.
Children and jogging strollers are welcome. We want children to be a part of this event. We do recommend that your children are properly protected with sunglasses, and for toddlers and infants, maybe even something to cover their mouth. The powdered paint is non-toxic and made mainly from corn-starch, but it could irritate the smaller ones more than us.
Dogs and bikes are prohibited. For the safety of all of our participants, and for the dogs, NO DOGS or bikes will be allowed on the race course.
There is no age limit for younger or older runners; however, due to time restraints, the 5k course is limited to runners/walkers that can complete 5 kilometers in an hour or less. But we created a 2 mile route for those with smaller legs or those who cannot walk at least a three-mile per hour pace.
You are welcome to wear your own shirt during the run instead of your official Community Kolor Run Shirt, but we ask that it be all white. Keep in mind that it will get color on it that may not all wash out.
The tossing of the color does not hurt in any way. The paint is a very fine corn starch powder that will simply be scooped out of a large bucket and tossed. We don’t use paint guns or anything that could bruise.
If you would like to preserve the color in your running shirt, liberally spray it with vinegar, let it dry, and then iron it before you wash it. Wash it on cold the first few times. Because the paint is designed to wash out of things and clean up easily, we cannot guarantee that the color will stay.
If you want to avoid getting color in your car, we recommend bringing some towels to place on your car seat. It’s similar to being at the beach or playing sand volleyball.
Riverside Athletic Club will open only one smaller women’s and men’s locker room after the race. Please be mindful of this as we will have a very limited number of showers available after the race.
If you want to take photos while running through the color, we recommend covering cameras/phones with clear plastic. We will have event photographers on hand, but we know you will want to take your own shots. We will also have a photo station set up at the end of the race where you, your friends or family can get a souvenir photo taken that will be posted on the Riverside Athletic Club Facebook for you to download.
Unfortunately, we cannot issue refunds for the Community Kolor Run. The logistics of the setting up and planning the event, and the upfront costs for the shirts and paint make it impossible. Just make sure you are good to go before you sign up. If for some reason you can’t make it to race day, at least come to check in and pick up your Community Kolor Fun Packet.

CLEANING TIPS
BEFORE THE RUN
- Putting coconut or olive oil in your hair before the run will make it easier to wash out later. A good leave-in conditioner will also work. This is more important for runners with light or highlighted hair.
- You could also wear a thick scarf or bandana to cover your hair, or you could use a bandana to cover your mouth
- Wear a good sunscreen and lip balm
- Wear some form of eyewear, either sunglasses or goggles
- Though most of the color will wash out of just about everything, we recommend not wearing those expensive shoes or clothing and avoid bringing an expensive stroller. Just choose items you won’t mind if they stay colored.
AFTER THE RUN
Take a few minutes after the run to clean up so the color doesn’t make its way back into your house
Dust off as much dry powder as you can before you apply any water. Take advantage of the cleanup station. Dust the powder off of things you don’t want color on before it gets wet. Most of the powder will dissipate quickly into the air
To clean your hair, dust any loose powder out of your hair. Rinse out any oil you applied with cold water. Then wash your hair like you would normally. It may take a few washes to remove some of the more vibrant colors like the red and purple.
The color probably will never come all the way out of your white Kolor Run shirt or other white clothes you may wear. But that should be your goal
For clothing you do want to get the color off of, remove all excess powder before applying water (do this outside). Then wash these items separately. OxiClean or a similar product will help as well.
