My Story…
After ten years on dialysis, I received my kidney transplant in May 2013. Unfortunately, the new kidney had acute tubular necrosis (ATN) and did not function for six months so I continued dialysis until December 2013. During this time, I was approved for an Alive to Strive grant and started going to the group fitness classes. Slowly my stamina improved and I gained confidence that I could do more types of exercise. In last year's race, I walked the 1k with my daughter Surraya. It was such a fantastic feeling to cross the finish line. This year I am aiming for the 5k!
