At age 4, Egan was diagnosed with an Atrial Septal Defect with Partial Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection. He underwent open heart surgery soon after and now leads a normal healthy childhood with no need for medication or physical restrictions. We're thankful every day for how things turned out. However, his story and many more would not have been possible without significant advances in cardiac research. Much more work needs to be done to help ensure a happy outcome for all pediatric cardiac patients.
