Race Day Details
- Registration on race day (Sat. May 16th) will begin at 7:30AM at Pavilion #5 at Curwensville Lake, click here to see their pavilion map. Participants will also be able to register the day before (Fri. May 15th) at the Curwensville Lake Rec Area at Pavilion#5 from 4-6pm.
- There is a MANDATORY pre-race meeting at 9:30AM at Pavilion #5. You MUST leave enough time to drive to the bike and canoe transition sites to drop off your canoes/kayaks and bikes (30 - 40 minute round trip). You can also drop them off before coming up to the Dam in the morning.
- Race starts at 10AM near the Gasbarre Products Inc off the Bloomington-Glen Richey Highway. There will be a shuttle provide after the pre-race meeting and carpooling for teammates and spectators is encouraged.
- PLEASE NOTE: Participants can rent canoes/kayaks from McCracken Canoe Rental but YOU MUST provide YOUR OWN transportation to and from the event.
- The finish line is across the parking lot from Pavilion #5.
- Following the race, food will be available at Pavilion #5 and awards and door prizes will be handed out following the meal.
Camping is available at the lake for tents and campers. Please visit the Curwensville Lake website for more information or call 1-800-326-9051 for fees and reservations.
Boating & Fishing access are also available at the Lake. There are no horsepower restrictions so bring your boat and your fishing gear and take to the water via the marina. There are also plenty of areas to fish from the shore, as well as a handicapped accessible fishing area near the marina.
Swimming is available at the beach area near Pavilion #5; however, no life guard will be on duty so it is "swim at your own risk". Bring your suit and relax on the beach or jump in after the race to cool off!
Come and enjoy all that Curwensville Lake has to offer. there are plenty of activities that will allow you to make a fun-filled weekend out of it!
Course Details
- No pacers are allowed for run, kayak/canoe or biking.
- It is up to you to read all the directions to the fullest.
- Race will proceed rain or shine.
- Race directors reserve the right to cancel or change event if weather or other conditions warrant.
- No abuse of volunteers, police or others will be tolerated. Any abuse will lead to disqualification.
- There will vehicles available to shuttle participants up to the starting line near Gasbarre Products Inc. on McKee Road.
- There will be no shuttles to and from the other transition areas.
Running:
- Impeding other runners is prohibited.
- When running, please travel on left hand side facing oncoming traffic.
- Water will be provided at the approximate mile 3 point and the canoe launch at the Curwensville Civic Center.
- Relay teams - you must tag your teammate in the marked area before he/she can enter the water. You can help you teammate with her/his boat.
Canoeing/kayaking:
- Personal Floatation Devices (PFD) must be worn at all times.
- Water will be provided at the canoe take-out.
- There will be volunteers near or in the water if there is a problem.
- If the water is low there may be areas where you have to walk with your boat. Be prepared.
- Relay teams - after exiting water you must run up to bicycle transition area to tag you teammate.
Biking:
- Drafting is not allowed.
- Approved helmets must be worn at all times and must be on before leaving transition area.
- Impeding a passing bike is prohibited.
- Bicyclists must stay on designated route.
- Stay in the right hand lane with traffic.
- This is not a closed racecourse. Please be wary of traffic at all times, especially on SR 453, which has more traffic.

Course Description and Map
RUN:
Runners will start near Gasbarre Products Inc. on McKee Road (paved). Runners will make a right on Bloomington-Glen Richey Highway (paved) then left on Hemlock Hollow Road (dirt). Then runners will make a left on Piney Road (dirt) then right on Bloomington Avenue Extension (paved). Runners will continue on that road until they reach Curwensville Civic Center. Turn right and run past the center and grab your canoe or kayak (or tag your teammate) and proceed to the water.
Note: The Bloomington-Glen Richey Highway is across from Lake Drive. Registration and the start line is in two different places. Registration and pre-race meeting is still at Pavilion #5 at Curwensville Lake!!
CANOE/KAYAK:
You will pass under a railroad bridge then Hogback Bridge and the Rails-to Trails bridge. You will travel another 2 miles down the river (5 miles total). The take-out will be on the right before the 879 Bridge. It will be clearly marked. Once out of the water you will move to your bike (or tag your teammate).
BIKE:
You will make a right onto Carbon Mine Road. At the intersection with a stop sign you will make a left on Old Erie Pike. At the next stop sign you will make a right onto SR 2023. Continue on this road to Glen Richey and O’Shanter. At intersection continue straight on SR 2022. At the stop sign make a right on Route 453. Continue on this road until you make a left on Lake Drive. Continue down to the lake to the finish line. All roads are paved on the bike course.
