About Program for Humanitarian Aid (PHA)
Program for Humanitarian Aid (PHA) is focused on serving older orphans and those in need of humanitarian aid in Ukraine. PHA provides resources that enable a network of Ukrainians to serve orphans and others in need.
PHA’s Transition Program for Older Orphans:
Around age 16, orphans in Ukraine “graduate” or are expelled from the orphanage system. They are unprepared for the world they face, and they have little hope of a successful future.
The futures they face are bleak:
· 10-15% commit suicide
· 60% of the girls enter prostitution
· 70% of the boys become criminals
· 80% end upon the street
PHA’s Transition Program for older orphans helps these children transition from orphanage life into successful adulthood. Through PHA’s Transition Program, older orphans learn life skills such as how to cook, how to clean, how maintain a home, and how to make and use a budget. They also receive tutoring and legal help. Through a network of local Ukrainians, they receive mentorship, learn about healthy relationships and develop a support system for life outside of the orphanage.
Current Components:
· Integrated Program at the Orphanage, before “graduation”
· Domik, Our Day Center
· Overnight Visits
· Summer Camps
Future Components:
· Transitional Housing
· Foster Family Program
Humanitarian Aid:
Ukraine is a county of approximately 45.5 million people. With an average annual income of $3,900, a failing economy, and a warlike environment in the East, Ukraine offers many opportunities to help.
PHA also provides humanitarian aid in the form of medical equipment, hearing aids, food, clothing, and refugee support to those in need in Ukraine.
