On May, 20, the Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe in a silent procession to honor bicyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways.
Although bicyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often is not aware of these rights - an sometimes not even aware of the cyclists themselves.
The Ride of Silence is free. It is a slow-paced, 10 mile ride to raise awareness among motorists, government officials, and law enforcement that bicyclists have a legal right to the public roadways and to honor the lives of those bicyclists who have been killed or injured.

In 2003, Chris Phelan organized the first Ride of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed.
The ride is held during National Bike Month to raise the awareness of motorists, police, and city officials that have a legal right to use the public roadways and to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured.
