Right to Hike, Inc. is proud to announce the 9th Annual Ella’s Run Presented by Georgia’s Own Credit Union. This year will, again, feature the traditional 5K course that participants can choose to run or walk, as well as the popular one mile fun run/walk. The event will take place at The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center located in Buford, Georgia.
Right to Hike, Inc. was founded to honor the life of Meredith Hope Emerson who lost her life while hiking in the North Georgia Mountains on New Year’s Day, 2008. Emerson was a Buford, Georgia resident who loved the outdoors, her black lab, Ella, and her community. The main goals of this non-profit is to continue to contribute to the things Meredith loved most in life and strive to make the outdoors a safer place that people can enjoy without fear.
Ella’s Run will once again welcome Georgia’s Own Credit Union as the Presenting Sponsor for the event. David Preter, President & CEO of Georgia’s Own Credit Union states, “Georgia’s Own is so proud to be supporting Ella’s Run again this year. What a beautiful way to honor Meredith’s legacy by making hiking safer right here in North Georgia and also raising awareness for the issue even beyond our community.”
As in years past, this event will continue to encourage participants and spectators to bring their dogs to enjoy this wonderful day. Registration will include the race, a custom long sleeve t-shirt, and a festival complete with food sponsored by Carrabba’s Italian Grill®, a beer garden sponsored by MillerCoors®, door prizes and vendors.
Proceeds from this event will go towards Right to Hike’s main focus of donating emergency cell phone units to local parks, trails and greenways. Thus far, the group has donated eight phones within the Gwinnett Community. For this year’s event, Right to Hike has received a ninth phone as a donation from the Manufacturer, Rath Security. Tom Touchett, President of Rath Security, declares, “In order to expand this safety initiative, we are pleased to donate an emergency phone to this great organization. It is our sincere hope to continue our relationship with Right to Hike in order to offer security to runners, hikers, and bikers well into the future.”
This ninth phone will be donated to Union County, Georgia, and will be placed at a location yet to be determined. Its Commissioner, Lamar Paris, will be present at the race to accept the donated phone and he states, “Union County is honored to have been chosen to receive one of the emergency communication devices for our county. While it has been a long time since Meredith Emerson was a household name in North Georgia, it has never been too long to remember the way our community, public safety and law enforcement all worked together to try to find her and support her friends and her family. This event’s continuation has meant that so many have given so much to be able to always recall and remember what an extraordinary person Meredith Emerson was.”

Fundraising
Right To Hike, Inc. is dedicated to celebrating the life of our friend, Meredith Hope Emerson through raising funds and awareness for causes close to Meredith's heart. We hope to honor her memory by sharing her courage, love of the outdoors and belief that all people have the right to live without fear.
Our online goal is matched for the purchase for one (1) emergency phone that will be presented to a local municipality at the event on October 18th. Your contribution helps our goal but most importantly it potentially helps a stranded person in need of assistance.
Anyone who raises $100 or more will receive a Right to Hike hoodie!
