My Story…
On April 23, 2015, I learned that I had Amelanotic Desmoplastic Melanoma. All I knew was that it was cancer...the deadliest kind of skin cancer. I was scared. The next day I met with my dermatologist to learn that I would be seeing a Melanoma Specialist and would likely need to have lymph nodes tested. On May 1st, I underwent a sentinel lymph node biopsy and a wide excision (9cm long by 3cm wide) on my right arm to remove any existing melanoma. The following week was one of the hardest of my life. Waiting for results to see if I was ok or if I was going into the fight of my life. Luckily my lymph nodes were negative and there was no remaining cancer left in the wide excision. I now see the Dermatologist every 3 mo. And see an oncologist twice a year. I feel blessed and lucky to have come out on top.
At current rates, 1 in 63 Americans will develop an invasive melanoma over a lifetime. One person dies of melanoma every hour.
