It will be a great place to try a triathlon for the first time or a goal for summer training. We offer a mildly challenging and very safe circuit that is 95 % closed to vehicle traffic.
Triathlon registration will be capped at 80 and will close once we reach that number in order to allow time to get everyone through the race. Duathlon registration will remain open and will not be capped. The first 60 registered racers registered NLT than Friday 29 July will receive a race t-shirt. There will be no race day registrations.
Registration and pre-race brief.
Participant registration will be done in the main entrance of the Base Gagetown Fitness Centre from 0645 to 0850. There will be 3 separate mandatory pre-race briefs each held at 0730, 0815, and 0915. Please refer to the race schedule below to find out which brief to attend. The pre-race briefs will be held in the bleachers on the pool. It is recommended that participants get their bikes ready in the transition area before attending the pre-race brief.
The base gym has changerooms, showers, and lockers available. There is also ample parking space for athletes and spectators. Family and friends are welcome to watch.
Transition zone will be 150 meters to the north of the gym on a paved road. It will be open by 0645 hrs and will remain open so that competitors can rack their bikes prior to their run or swim. Please note that the transition area will be controlled to avoid possible collision between racers and those showing up at various times to rack their bikes and get ready to race.
Swim course.
The swim will be held in the base gym 25 meter pool. We will conduct rolling and continuous swim heats starts roughly based on alphabetical order with the lineup starting at the pool bleachers so participants will be required to stay nearby once the per-race brief is done. The intention is to keep the pool lanes filled at all times. There will be two swimmers per lane (one per side) and swimmers will be required to stay on their side throughout the entire swim. This will ensure no interference between swimmers. Flip turns or side turns are permitted at each end as long as they do not interfere with other competitors. Competitors may rest at any end of a lane if needed. Swim lanes will be assigned by the pool deck coordinator as they become available. Once assigned a lane, the competitors will cross the start timing mat and make their way to their assigned swim lane to start swimming immediately. The timing mat will be located close to the swim start end of the pool. We will have lane counters to assist you and signal the end of your swim. It will be the responsibility of every swimmer to inform the lane counter of the length of their swim (750 or 400 meters). There will be an end of swim timing mat right outside the pool to catch the end of your swim time. Competitors will then make their way to the transition zone. Once the swim heats start we will keep the swim lanes filled until all swimmers are done.
Bike course.
The bike course will consist of three laps all on the base with shallow climbs and descents incorporating six 90 deg turns and two 180 deg turns. You can expect two long fast descents on the way out, a few flat and straight sections in the middle, and some shallow climbs to slow you down on the way back. The course will be closed to traffic except for one intersection that will be guarded.
Run course.
The junior triathlon run, the try-a-tri run, and the duathlon second run will consist of a 2.5 km loop that starts with a 1 km roadside section before turning back into the forest towards the gym on a groomed trail with a few short and shallow climbs.
The sprint triathlon run and sprint duathlon first run consist of a 5 km loop that is 80% groomed trail with a short road shoulder section. There will be a water station at the ½ way point. You can expect mostly flat terrain with one long moderate climb approx 2/3 into the run and you’ll want to keep an energy reserve for that climb.
Both runs finish with a ½ right hand loop around the 400 meters track before crossing the timing mats. You will have nice flat ground to put on a hard finishing sprint while your friends and family cheer you on.
Medals presentations will be as follows:
- Top three males and females for the sprint triathlon, sprint duathlon, try-a-tri, junior 16-19, and junior under 16.
- Top three teams for team sprint triathlon and team sprint duathlon.
Make sure you stick around for the awards presentation after the race!
Train safe, train hard, and see you on race day!
