This year's event is being presented by the Woodside-Sunnyside Runners in conjunction with the Sunnyside Post.
The event is taking place on Saturday, September 10th, with the ceremony kicking off at 9:30 AM and the Mile beginning at 10:00 AM. It will be followed by children's dashes on Skillman Ave. at 10:45 AM.
Thursday, September 8 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Bib/T-shirt pickup + registration at Bar 43 (43-06 43rd St.)
Friday, September 9 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Bib/T-shirt pickup + registration at Maggie Mae’s (41-15 Queens Blvd.)
Bibs, t-shirts and registration are available Saturday morning between 8-9 a.m. before the race (shirts for day-of registrants limited and not guaranteed). Avoid long lines by signing up now and picking up bibs & t-shirts before Saturday.
We are proud to be hosting this charitable run/walk, which will be an action-packed morning for adults, kids, and even their furriest friends.
Proceeds from this event will be split among a number of local non-profit groups such as Sunnyside Artists and Woodside on the Move, while also going to beautification projects on Skillman Ave. and Queens Blvd.

Q: Where and when is bib and t-shirt pickup?
A: T-shirts and bibs can be picked up Thursday and Friday evenings, and Saturday morning before the race. If picking up pre-race, please allow extra time.

Q: Can I register on race day, and does it cost more?
A: You are welcome to register on the day of the race (allow ample extra time before the 10 a.m. start), and can also sign up in person at the two bib pick-ups on Thursday and Friday. The cost does not change. Please note that t-shirt sizes are not guaranteed for late entries.
Q: Who benefits from this race?
A: Proceeds from the race benefit a group of local charities, listed below. We invite you to visit their web pages for more detailed information.
Woodside on the Move sponsors programs to further tenant advocacy, affordable housing, youth development, senior services, the arts, cultural programs and the business community. http://www.woodsideonthemove.org/
Sunnyside Shines is a business improvement district (BID) covering properties fronting Queens Boulevard as well as Greenpoint Avenue. They plan to use race funds for a flower garden on the south side of Queens Boulevard. http://www.sunnysideshines.org/
The Skillman Project is is community group of neighbors and business owners on Skillman Avenue. They plan to use race funds towards holiday decorations along the Avenue. http://www.theskillmanproject.com/
Sunnyside Artists is a group of over 200 visual artists and 400 arts supporters. They plan to use race funds towards the painting of a mural. http://sunnysideartists.org/index.html

Q: Will I be able to choose a T-shirt size?
A: Yes, but T-shirt sizes can only be guaranteed for those who register before Wednesday, August 24. Participants who register after that date can't be guaranteed a T-shirt size of their choice.
Q: Will there be baggage check for the event?
A: Yes. Maggie Mae's Bar, located at 41-15 Queens Blvd, will be providing baggage check at its location beginning at 8:00 AM. Please arrive well before the 10:00 AM start time to ensure that you have your items checked-in and have adequate time (about a 6 minute walk) to return to the starting line at Skillman and 43rd Street. Expect there to be a wait time for check-in. IMPORTANT: Bring your own bag to check - bags will not be provided.
Q: Can my child participate in the mile?
A: Children registered for the Skillman Dash may join their parent or guardian for the mile run/walk before the Dashes begin. Children over the age of two (2) joining parents for the Mile and not planning to run a Dash should be registered for either the Dash or the Mile.
Please note that children who want to have their mile timed must be registered for the Sunnyside Post Mile to receive a bib with a timing chip.
Q: Will my dog be able to participate?
A: Leashed dogs are invited to run/walk with their owners for the mile. However, we ask that they line up at the back before the event begins for a staggered start.
Q: Can I bring a stroller on the one mile run/walk?
A: Parents pushing strollers will be able to participate. Toddlers under the age of two (2) years do not have to register.
Q: Will there be water provided?
A: Water will only be provided at the finish line. Saturday will be hot, so it is a good idea to bring some water to sip before the race. There is also a water fountain at Lou Lodati Playground.
Q: Will there be restroom facilities?
A: Yes. Maggie Mae's will have restrooms for those who check in baggage. Lou Lodati Playground has restrooms and a water fountain open to the public.
Q: Can I both volunteer and run the race?
A: Some volunteer spots make it possible to both run the race and volunteer: Bib/T-shirt pick ups on Thursday and Friday before the race, and the Kid’s Dashes after the Mile.
Q: How do we line up for the race?
A: The race corral for the Mile will have a staggered start for safety - Leashed dogs will line up in back, preceded by runners and walkers with strollers, with runners and walkers in the front.
Q: Are there awards?
A: Children’s Skillman Dash participants will receive a ribbon awarded after each Dash. An awards ceremony with medals for the Top 3 Sunnyside Post Mile male and female finishers will take place after the Skillman Dashes.
Q: When and where are the children’s Skillman Dashes?
A: Children’s Skillman Dashes begin at 10:45 a.m. and will line up on Skillman Avenue close to 45th Street, running towards the Mile finish line at 44th Street. Ribbons for all Dashers will be given after each Dash. The distances are 25 yards for 2-3 year olds & 4-5 year olds, 50 yards for 6-7 year olds, and 75 yards for 8-9 year olds.
Q: What’s this I hear about beer discounts after the Mile?
A: Several Sunnyside bars and pubs are having specials for race participants and their fans, including Maggie Mae’s, Bar 43 and Jack’s Fire Dept.
The Sunnyside Post Pub Mile commences after the race and will last all day and into the evening. Your race bib or t-shirt will get you $4 Oktoberfest beer at eight bars along Skillman Avenue: Claret, Dog & Duck, Bar 43, Quaint, The Globe Tavern, Alcove, Aubergine and The Copper Kettle. After the race, any remaining race t-shirts and bibs will be sold at the Pub Mile pubs for $10 and $5 respectively for anyone over 21 to join the festivities, with proceeds going to the race’s charities. Supplies are limited, so guarantee yours by registering for the race.
