Ex-Cross at Exhibtion Park - Saint John

Race Day Registration will be available from 12.30pm to 1.30pm at the track at Saint John Exhibition.

Latest News - Our colleagues at the Saint John Exhibition have very kindly and generously donated $1000 to our races at the track on Sept 03. We will offer 2 ways to win a share of the funds.

1) Each athlete who registers for the race will be asked to complete a ballot stating their name and Sports Club they are representing. During the afternoon we will draw 1 ballot and the winning person will win a prize of $500.00 towards their nominated sports club. Cheques will be made payable to the Club nominated.

2) $500.00 in prize money will be up for grabs divided equally between Male and Female competitors (except kids) as follows:

1st place overall Male & Female = $120.00

2nd place overall Male & Female = $80.00

3rd place overall Male & Female = $50.00

Prize money will be a combination of placings in the following events - Elimination Race, TT & Ex Cross - details to follow.

Welcome to our inaugural off-road bike races at The Saint John Ex on Saturday Sept 3 using the 1/2 mile Harness Racing track giving us a traffic free and horse free course for all our races. There will be a number of races throughout the afternoon and it's 1 price whether you take part in 1 race or all.

The idea behind this is to attract a wide range of cyclists in a friendly, fun, no pressure environment where the focus is on friendly competion over a variety of disciplines. Mountain Bikes, Fat Tire Bikes and Cyclocross Bikes are all welcome but for year 1 there will be no separate divisions based on what bike you are riding. Some of the disciplines may be new to you but come out, ride hard and enjoy yourself. Here is a brief explantion to some of the events which are most definitely subject to change.

Race 1 - The Elimination Race

I know, Elimination Race does not sound like fun but bear with us, here is the format. It will be a mass start with every rider will completing 3 full laps of the track and at the end of the 4th and every subsequent lap thereafter the last placed rider is eliminated until there are only 3 riders left who will then complete the next lap for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd placed results. The tactic here is only to ride fast enough to avoid elimination at the end of each lap to conserve energy for the end of the race.

Kids Races

There will be a variety of kids races over varying distances based on age-group - more details to follow and all Kids Races are free of charge up to 14 years of age.

Race 2 - 1 Mile Time Trial

2 laps of the track , with riders starting at 30 second intervals, awards for top Male & Female.

Race 3 - ExCross

Cyclocross at Exhibition Park using the Harness Racing track and the grass infield. This will be a 30 minute timed event plus 1 lap and we will design a course that is friendly to riders new to Cyclocross and those who want to get back in the swing of Cross riding before the season starts. The track will be flat and flowing.

Start timing of events will be subject to the finishing time of the previous race so please refer to the whiteboard on race day from race start times. First race will start at 2.00pm.

VELONB Members must bring your race licence to registration on race day. If you do not have your licence with you, you will have to pay the $3.00 Non-VeloNB fee.
