Every 40 seconds someone in the United States has a stroke. It is the fifth leading cause of death and the number one cause of serious long-term disability in United States. Stroke Survivors Empowering Each Other (SSEEO) is the first patient-supported advocacy group in the nation.
Founded in 2004 by stroke survivors, we are hundreds of members who are championing for survivors and their families in communities across Illinois. Through our newsletter, web-site and toll-free teleconference series, we are able to reach thousands of families and stroke stakeholders nationwide. Our mission is: To provide advocacy, support, education and resources to stroke survivors and their families.
Originally with the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, SSEEO is an independent non- profit with 501(c)(3) designation.
We are pleased to continue the SSEEO Walk/Run Event. The event will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Village Park, Winthrop Harbor, IL. This event will help increase stroke awareness while celebrating the lives of the thousands of stroke survivors and their families.
So please, join us on May 6th for the SSEEO Walk/Run to benefit SSEEO and stroke awareness. This year we are pleased to welcome all "wheelers" (disabled using special wheel chair) and visually impaired particiants to our 5K event! Wheelers will have a start time of 8:55 AM.
