The Stampede is held at bucoloic Lodestar Park, in Newton, and features a 5K race and Mile Fun Run/Walk. This year, it is our honor to hold the race in memory of the wonderful Terrie DeFabritis who positively touched so many people's lives in our community. Since Terrie was a huge advocate of the NJ Sharing Network, proceeds will benefit this vital charity as well as sustain The Bears Youth Running Program.
Born in Newton, Terrie was a life-long resident of the area and extremely vested in her community as a firewoman and EMT. On Friday, January 13, at age 55, she passed away peacefully and courageously after a long battle with lung disease. Shortly before she died, she received a double lung transplant--the only chance to save her life--from an organ donor. The NJ Sharing Network was near and dear to her heart as it facilitates linking organ donors with those who are in need.
The Bears Youth Running Program/Polar Bears Track & Field Club are running programs held three seasons of the year to teach our area youth the many positive physical and mental benefits of the sport of running. With the advent of technology, texting, snap chatting and all social media, the program aims to get kids outside and into the fresh air to do something healthy for their bodies and minds.
A fabulous 5K through bucolic Lodestar Park in memory of an amazing woman named Terrie DeFabritis.
Enjoy the day and help us remember Terrie
The Stampede has been held for over two decades and has become famous for its post-race home-baked goodies and unique prizes. We feature live music and this year, it is our honor to remember community icon, Terrie DeFabritis.
