Has this ever been done before? Yes, it was done years ago at the balloon festival in Bloomsbury, NJ and we began the tradition 10 years ago at the Warren County Farmers’ Fair featuring the Hot Air Balloon Festival.
Where does the money go? 100% of the bikers’ registration fees will go to a local scholarship fund in the name of our past Balloonmeister, Fred Grotenhuis. Without Fred’s vision for the balloon festival, the event would not have been possible. Two scholarships were established in his name – one for family of military members and one for youth attending a trade school. In 2017 a third was established that trains local youth to obtain their Remote Pilot Certification for flying sUAV’s (drones.) For more on the scholarships visit www.fredgscholarships.org
What do I need to compete? To be eligible to compete you must have a GPS for verification of time and location of
drop off.

Space is limited to number of participating balloons. We will confirm your spot so you may begin fundraising. A minimum of $200 must be raised by July 3rd or we cannot guarantee your spot. A reminder will be sent regarding the fundraising minimum if not met by 7/3/17.
Pilots will only be assigned once the fundraising minimum is met. There will be no payments accepted the night of the race. Meeting the fundraising minimum early guarantees your spot as we only accept participants to match the number of pilots we have participating.

This year in an effort to ensure that we raise as much support as possible for the Fred Grotenhuis Scholarships, once your racing spot is confirmed you will be asked to raise a minimum of $200 for the event. You can choose to make a donation of $200 yourself or send out a challenge to your friends, family and neighbors (don't forget Facebook!)
Fundraising is not refundable should the weather or techinical difficulites prevent us from racing either night.
Families are not permitted on the launch field. You may bring 1 person onto the field to assist you prior to launch.
