Rules & Etiquette to keep the race fun and safe
Athletes are to be divided into 5 groups based on their year of birth, each group will have a different colored wrist band.
We aim to start the race as soon as possible (registration/check-in opens at 8:30, no check-ins will be permitted after 9:15)
The youngest racers will go first in wrist band order: green, orange, blue, red and yellow.
Be ready to go to the pool after the last swimmer from the group before yours has left, we will start the next group as quickly as possible.
Parents are allowed to watch swimmers from the pool area as directed by the pool volunteers. Please keep the transition area clear at all times (unless younger swimmers need assistance).
TRANSITION AREA
Racks are set up for bicycles and a separate area is designated for tricycles.
SWIM
Please bring your shoes and shirts to the pool area and place them by the exit gate on the swimmers left. Swimmers can use any stroke and approved floatation devices are allowed if they are not a comfortable swimmer. These will be available in the pool area.
TRANSITION 1
After the swim, athletes will put on their shirts and shoes, then proceed out the metal gate leaving the pool from the shallow end side and run to the transition zone to mount their bikes.
BIKE
- Helmets must be on and done up before taking the bikes off of the rack. Helmets must not be removed until the bike has been returned to the rack.
- Do not get on your bike until you cross the bike mount line and do not get off of your bike until crossing the dismount line (you will be directed by volunteers).
- All groups will be turned right out of the transition area. Only the blue and yellow groups will do two loops (the blue loop is smaller) of the bike course. After finishing the first loop, they will be instructed to get off of their bikes at the line before the transition area and walk/run their bikes safely across to the second line before getting back on their bikes to begin the second loop.
- The green, orange and red groups will only do a single loop of their respective bike course.
- Please bike in control and listen to the directions from the volunteers. Stay on the right side of the road at all times. Be prepared to stop at intersections if told by a volunteer. Potholes, rough areas or hazards will be marked along the course – please watch carefully.
Transition 2
After crossing the dismount line get off of your bike and return it to the rack before removing your helmet.
Run
Athletes will leave the transition area, cross the road, and turn left. Continue as shown by the volunteers until you are told to turn around and come back the same way to the finish line.
Parents are allowed to give help if needed but please minimize traffic on the course. You may watch the race from any location off of the course but avoid crossing the route when racers are present. It is VERY IMPORTANT to have no spectators in the transition areas (both the pool and bike transition areas will be clearly marked by chalk and tape).
Medical support will be available at the pool, plus there are first aid kits along the course.
