Please join us on Saturday September 9th for the 5th annual Helping Hearts 5K in honor and memory of Jeremy Nelson, a Buford Middle School student who passed away tragically in January 2013.
We'll be racing through historic downtown buford, most of which is flat & fast. The race starts at 8:00 am. Great race shirts and Custom awards (medals) to the overall M/F, Overall Master's M/F, and the top 3 in all the usual 5 year age groups (10 & Under - 75+).

Entry Fee & Registration
- Individual entry is $27 through Aug. 31, $30 afterwards. All particpants registered by 9/3 are guaranteed a great race shirt in their size (registrations afterwards will receive a shirt while supplies last).
- Race day registrations are welcome for $5 more (shirts will be available while supplies last).
Event Beneficiary
Proceeds from the race go to the Jeremy Nelson Foundation, which gives scholarships to Buford High School Students.
Virtual (or Phantom) runners too
Want to get involved, but can't make it to the race...or maybe you have abolutely NO DESIRE to run/walk a 5K? The Virtual (Phantom) Runner spot is for you! You get a shirt, you get a bib, but there's no sweating; just schedule a time to pickup your shirt at a participating location or on raceday.
Still want to participate and have a shot at an award?
Then the virtual race is for you.
Here's how it works:
1. Register for the Virtual division & Start Training
2. The week of the event you'll receive your bib via email
3. The day before the race you'll receive instructions & a link to submit your race time
4. Submit your race time by end of race day
5. The day after the race results (Virtual Runner division) will be posted online
6. Monday after the race you'll receive an email with a link to the results & any pictures.
7. Monday after the race we'll package up all the T-shirts & medals and put them in the mail.

Register a family of 4 for just $79 total.
All you need to do is register everyone at the same time, and create a team. The discount will be applied at checkout.

We'll have custom award medals to the:

- Overall Sr. Master M/F (60+ yrs)
- Top 3 finishers in all the normal 5yr age groups starting at 10 & under through 75+.
T-Shirts
All participants registered by 9/4 are guaranteed a race shirt in their size (women's sizes too). Registrations after that will receive a shirt while supplies last.
Finish Line & Post Race Refreshments
We'll have music & great finish line refreshments so you'll be able to celebrate your finish in style.
Event Cap
The event is capped at 1500 participants.
Five Star 5K Championships & Turkey Trot
- All participants will receive FREE entry into the 2017 Five Star Turkey Trot.
- Top finishers will also earn a qualifying spot in the Five Star 5K Championships.

Event Courtesy & Refund Policy
Our events are designed to be fun and for the entire family. With that in mind any competitor, spectator, parent, volunteer, or sponsor, exhibiting unsportsmanlike conduct or interfering with the positive, competitive atmosphere of the event will be asked to leave the venue and course immediately with no refunds.
All registrations are final...We're sorry, but there are no refunds, transfers, or deferments.
