Who Will YOU Walk For?


For the first time ever in Sault Ste. Marie, men and women in our community are joining to participate in an incredible event called 

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® 


All men, women and children are invited to join the local Walk a Mile In Her Shoes at City Hall in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, on Saturday, May 26, 2018 in support of Women In Crisis (Algoma) Inc. United, we can create a community that stands in support of a violence free life for all women and children.

 All pledges go towards furthering the work of ending Violence Against Women and Children.

  • For those that can't make it, donations can be made on this site (they can select your team name) 

  • If you have any issues registering or donating please contact Women In Crisis and we will be able to come and assist you in the process!

  • On the day of the event, May 26th, 2018 - all teams/walkers are asked to arrive to submit their pledge forms and accompanying monies no later then 10 am.

** PLEASE NOTE: Women In Crisis will not be responsible for collecting any pledges.

Who will YOU walk for?


Most important, is that the WINNING TEAM will hold bragging rights for the entire year!

 All pledges go towards furthering the work of ending Violence Against Women and Children.

  • You can also direct people to this website to make online donations for the WALK if they prefer (they can select your team name).

  • On the day of the event, May 26th, 2018 - all teams/walkers are asked to arrive to submit their pledge forms and accompanying monies no later then 10 am.

  • Any pledges without money will not be counted towards the team/individuals total amount raised.

 Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a fun opportunity to raise community awareness  about the serious causes and effects of violence against women and children. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to literally walk one mile in women's RED high-heeled shoes, but women are asked to wear some comfortable shoes for the walk!

Event Day Schedule

  • Saturday, May 26th 10:00AM - Team Registration/Pick up your Shoes!

  • Saturday, May 26th 11:00AM - Opening Ceremonies

  • Saturday, May 26th 11:30AM - WALK BEGINS

  • Saturday, May 26th 12:30PM - Awards Ceremonies and Post Walk Activities

This is an event that we want the whole community to be involved in. From Walking/Cheering/Supporting - TOGETHER we can end Violence Against Women

There will be FACE PAINTERS/BALLOON ANIMAL CREATIONISTS/BOUNCY CASTLES and FOOD!

Registration Information

  • Team registration (maximum of 4-6 participants per team) - $100  
        
  • Individual registration - $25. 
      
  • The Team that raises the most money in pledges will win the distinguished WALKED WITH COURAGE TROPHY to be kept for the entire year preceding the following walk. In addition to the trophy - the winning team will also be awarded with up to $200 in gift certificates to local businesses in Sault Ste. Marie.   
          
  • The Individual Participant who raises the most money in pledges will win the distinguished LEADER OF THE MILE Award in addition to a $50 gift certificate to a local business in Sault Ste Marie.

Walk Route

Starting from the Front Steps of City Hall

  • Follow the hub trail along St. Mary's River.
  • At the Centennial Public Library walk up to the secondary Hub Trail Path
  • Return to City Hall along the Hub Trail Path

 


Post Walk Activites

After the Walk, to retrieve your shoes simply return your heels to the registration table. Post walk activities will include refreshments, door prizes and family activities. A variety of foot care items will be available at the First Aid station, located in Roswell Park.

All About The Shoes

A pair of red pumps have been reserved for your feet! 

  • You will be wearing a two inch red pump. 
  • It is advisable to bring along one pair of thick socks and one pair of dress socks. 
  • You will receive a pair of heels in exchange for your street shoes at the registration table. 
  • After the Walk, to retrieve your shoes simply return your heels to the registration table. 
  • These high heels are manufactured to fit a man's foot.

 

How to Walk in High Heels

  • Wear band-aid to prevent blisters
  • Practice standing in high heels so you can get a sense of the shoes and your posture
  • Put your shoulders back
  • Tuck in your stomach
  • Stick out your chest
  • Land on the balls of your feet and not your heels (Think Toe Heel, Toe Heel, Toe Heel...)
  • Use your thigh muscles when you lift your feet
  • Walk one foot in front of the other
  • Take your time to walk the first few steps to avoid tripping
  • Walk confidently and have fun!
