Who you're Chasing at the Dion Winter Goose Chase
Lead Goose
Alison Douma raced on snowshoes for the first time at last year’s Dion Winter Goose Chase Snowshoe Race. She won the race and was awarded the Goose jersey for this year’s race. Alison is a trail and ultra runner from Cambridge. She has had a very successful trail running season this year. Alison placed 3rd female overall at the Run the Edge Tobermoury half marathon, and was on the podium yet again at That bad thing 50k trail race in Goderich taking 3rd place overall among the women. Alison will be defending her Goose jersey on her home course at Shade Mills Conservation area.
Lead Gander
Our Gander to chase for the 2018 Dion Winter Goose Chase Snowshoe Race is Ryan Saunders from Hamilton. Ryan runs for the Summit Chasers Running Club. He started snowshoe racing 3 years ago. Ryan is prepared to lead the way with many trail race podium finishes to his credit. He won the Sticks n’ Stones 25k trail race (October 2017), the Horror Trail 50k (October 2016), and the Limberlost Challenge 56k (July 2016). With all this snowshoe, trail and ultra racing experience, it’s going to make it tricky for the field to catch him.
Come on out and Chase the Goose (or Gander) through the snow. Goose and Gander Overall winners will be awarded free entry into next year’s race, and the chance to wear the “Goose” or “Gander” jerseys and have the honour of having 100 people chase after them in snowshoes.
