BACK THE BLUE 5K
O R L A N D O
Orlando Police Department is a nationally recognized law enforcement agency that is focused on the safety of their residents, visitors and businesses. Their job is to protect the citizens of Orlando and they intend to accomplish that mission, even at the risk of their own lives.
This was the case for Lieutenant Debra Clayton. Debra, a 17-year-veteran of the force, was killed on January 9, 2017 by murder suspect Markeith Lloyd in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Lloyd was wanted in the murder of his girlfriend.
Debra left behind a husband and one son. She was a community activist and her message was that the police is there for you and here to help you. She was a great leader and led by example. Her goal was to unite Orlando.
Back the Blue 5K is excited, yet humbled, to come to Orlando to help raise money for the family of Debra. Debra will never be forgotten and that’s what this race is for. To remember Debra and her life and to help her family financially.
*Please note that the full course is a 4 mile course. Awards will be given to the fastest overall male and female. There will be a time clock at the 5K mark so you can see your time. You can run the 5K and then walk the rest as a cool down or run the full course.
We hope you will be a part of the race by registering for the event, becoming a sponsor or donating to the cause.
