Gopher Tortoise Run

Join us for an exciting run/walk through the Oakland Nature Preserve. Our mission is to promote an understanding of the fragile balance between mankind and the environment by EDUCATING present and future generations about the natural ecosystems and cultural history of the Lake Apopka Basin, and by RESTORING and CONSERVING the lands within the Preserve. .All proceeds will help support this important work.

The course: This 3 mile trail run will take you along the trails of the Oakland Nature Preserve. The run begins with a 1 mile road segment, and then on to the Red Trail‘s white sand and slight elevation changes. The path narrows as you continue the fun under the oaks of the Yellow Trail. The Blue Trail promises open skies and pine trees and the Orange Trail showcases the newest restoration area.  Next, you pass the historic fish cabin and a quick run through the ONP parking area heading to the Green Trail where you will enjoy the shade of the oak hammock. Keep your eyes open for a zebra or emu as you pass by the fence line of Bailey Farm. Finally, it is time to head to the finish line.

Each registered on-site racer will receive a fun race tee shirt, Gopher Tortoise Run carved wooded medallion, and because this will be an eco friendly cup free zone, a clip-on Hydro Pouch. Virtual racers will receive a Gopher Tortoise Run wooden medallion. There is no day-of race registration. Our time keeper for the race is J7 Sports. Trail mileage in not exact, total distance approximately 3 miles.

Small cash prizes will be awarded for the top 3 male and female finishers in each category. Categories are:
