Topic: The K.I.S.S. Secrets to Social Media Success
Krysta Konachowicz, Social Media Consultant, GMS Health & Travel Insurance
Krysta is the perfect person to talk to us about Social Media. Her career started in non-profit so she knows the fine art of marketing without a budget, is an accidental sales person so is well versed in talking to and identifying key audiences and is a lifelong marketer with a passion for digital. As a self-proclaimed ‘Girl Friday’ she has done it all and knows that great marketing doesn’t mean you need to put all your eggs in the proverbial digital marketing basket. She can also appreciate the joy, pain and stress of running events – as an organizer of the Jon Ryan Charity Golf Classic in Regina, Calgary MS Walk, The YYC Heart & Stroke Foundation’s Ride for Heart and Mother Daughter walk. And by participating in the Okanagon half marathon, Melissa’s 10k and numerous other Calgary 5km and 10km running events.
Topic: Hotel California: Managing & Retaining Volunteers
Kirsten Parker, Program Coordinator, Manitoba Marathon
The running joke at the Manitoba Marathon is that volunteering with the team is like Hotel California…”you can check out any time you like but you can never leave”. With many leadership roles being held by 20+ year volunteers a strong base of knowledge and leadership is the core of success. However, how does a race continue to pass knowledge and maintain consistency for many years to come? This session will look at some of the challenges of succession planning as well as strategies for recruiting, onboarding and retention of new volunteers. Tools for communication, creating a framework for resources and recognition ideas will also be reviewed. Kirsten Parker is the Programs Coordinator with the Manitoba Marathon and has over a decade of experience in event and association management and volunteer relations.
