It gives us great pleasure to offer the Third annual Valley Proud Bicycle Tour.
We received so much great feed back from the riders who took part in 2016 and 2017 we used that to make this years even better. Once again, we are offering great routes, to support a great cause! Proceeds this year are goes to Northeast Education Centre safe grad committee.
All participants are eligible to win two $150 gift cards from one of our Valley proud bike shops, Banks Bikes Wolfville and Valley Stove and Cycle Kentville ( one gift card from each shop). In addition to the gift cards there will be draws for other great swag items from both shops.
Again this year, a delicious meal with burritos will follow the ride.
Pricing this year is $45
This year, we are offering a little more variety with a total of 3 routes to choose from,
120km, 90km, and 65km
Each route offers unique challenges to each rider. The 65km event is a great challenge to test a distance over a gentle rolling course with beautiful views.
The 90 km offers a longer distance offering beautiful panaramic views of the Valley with some challenging climbs.
The 120 offers all the above, and more.
Each route will offer rest stops and a rolling support vehicle on course. The support vehicle is for major breakdowns only, not flats, or if you chose a distance longer then your fitness level will allow.
Challenge yourself, challenge your friends , all for a great cause.
Together we can make a difference!

RULES OF THE RIDE
SOME RULES OF THE RIDE
1. Be familiar with Nova Scotia's Rules of the Road.
http://novascotia.ca/sns/pdf/ans-rmv-bicycle-safety.pdf
2. This is a self-paced FUN group event and is NOT a race! Riders are to consider their fitness and comfort level in deciding upon the course they choose.
3. Helmets are mandatory. An approved cycling helmet is required. Cyclists must wear a certified cycling helmet with the chinstrap buckled at all times while riding on the course.
4. Participants are permitted to use standard road bicycles, hybirds, recumbents, commuters or mountain bikes. Bicycles with aero bars affixed, as well as triathlon, and time trial bicycles will be permitted. Please note: If you have aero bars, please use them prudently at all times during the event, as our primary focus is the safety of all riders.
5. Know your limits. Crashes can occur when inexperienced riders do not have bike-handling skills or experience riding in a pack. Never overlap your wheels with another cyclist, always ride with care.
6. Be aware of others around you and communicate well in advance while cycling. Use gestures in combination with verbal commands. Use hand signals or verbally warn riders behind you of obstacles and road imperfection. Maintain control and speed of your bike, even going downhill.
7. Remember bicycles don't have brake lights, a constant even speed is safest.
8. Pass on the left only. It is recommended that riders advise others that they are about to pass- politely saying "passing on your left" upon approaching a slower rider usually does the trick. Ride with your head up. Look down the road not at the person in front of you.
9. If you wish to stop while on the course, signal to warn riders behind and pull over safely. If you need assistance stop on the right hand side of the road our on-course support team whether or not you need assistance. if you're ok signal with a "thumbs-up" or indicate your ok.
10. No use of personal audio devices(ipods, MP3 player etc) will be allowed on the course.
11. Use of cell phones (talking on cell phone or texting) is not permitted while riding. If one must use a cell phone the rider MUST pull over to the side of the road and come to a complete stop.
12. Emergency Vehicles and official event vehicles ALWAYS have the right of way. If a rider encounters an emergency vehicle, the rider is to give way to the emergency vehicle by moving over to the nearest side of the road , stopping and dismounting. If a rider encounters an official event vehicle and the operator signals by use of the horn that they wish to pass, the rider must immediately give the right of way to the vehicles.
13. Participants 15 and under need to be accompanied by an adult and are limited to the 50km route.
14. Participants between the age of 16-17 will need a signed waiver from a parent/guardian at registration in order to participate. it is obligatory to have it with you on ride day.
