The Camp Kerry Society has been delivering programs to support BC children, youth and families coping with grief and loss since 2007. Our programs encompass education, support and counselling services that we deliver through a range of innovative formats including: retreats/camps, support groups, community choirs, expressive-arts therapy, family counselling, adventure-based therapy and more. In all that we do we aim to foster a "compassionate community" of hope and belonging for those who are bereaved.
It is estimated that for every death at least five people are severely impacted; meaning each will experience some symptoms of grief that can last a lifetime. Some of these effects include; anxiety, depression, insomnia, isolation, substance abuse, homelessness and more. Despite there being a direct correlation to financial difficulties following a loss and long-term mental health issues for those who are bereaved, the government of Canada still doesn't fund bereavement care.
Whether you are looking to contribute to a cause financially, or someone wanting to walk, wheel or run your way to the finish line in either the Half Marathon or 5K event, your support for our team in the Scotiabank Charity Challenge will help make a HUGE difference for children, youth and families.
