My Story…

Dear Friends, On June 23, I'm going to be running in the Scotiabank Half-Marathon to raise money for a wonderful local organization that I volunteer with - the Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS). PIRS is a progressive non-profit organization that works with immigrant and refugee women and children. By running, I'm able to help raise funds that directly benefit PIRS and the resilient women and children that it serves - and I'd love to have you join me! Canada continues to be home of diverse cultures. Vancouver is home to 913,300 immigrants, 40.0% of Vancouver's total population (Statistics Canada, July 25, 2018). At Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS), our mission is to empower immigrant and refugee women to fully participate in Canadian life through neighborhood-based programs. We served 1,263 participants in 2018 through 20 different programs. This year, we have been able to offer free Language classes to immigrant and refugee women. Our future wish is for all PIRS programs to be free of charge.
